Matthew J. Slick is the creator and webmaster of the Christian website “Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry” (http://www.carm.org ), and is the host of a related radio program in Boise, Idaho entitled “Faith and Reason”. Slick is a Protestant presuppositional apologist and a leader in the counter-cult movement. My first video project, Psalm 69, was made in response to my frequent viewing of the Trinity Broadcasting Network(TBN) and my discovery of the band Ministry. I have always found it difficult to watch anything on TV. I watched a lot of TV as a kid and felt vulnerable to its social persuasion. However, I am not swayed by the effects of religious preaching and I found TBN hilariously cheesy and hypocritical. Characters such as Paul and Jan Crouch on TBN are obviously insincere about their intentions. I never believed they were very concerned about raising money to support TBN and various questionable charities with their never ending “praise-a-thons”. Instead, they seemed more concerned about living in luxury, perpetuating homophobia, and funding the never ending reconstruction of Jan’s sagging face. Not only is my video a statement about war, religion, and political sadism, but it is a visual spectacle. Upon its debut, several members of my intro to video class felt so disgusted they had to leave the room. Inversely, the rest of my peers loved it.
