Where was the Ministry of Magic in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?

August 6, 2011 - 4:56 pm 8 Comments

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, when Harry and his friends go into the department of mysteries, where is everyone? Why are there no ministry workers?

Sorry if thins is a stupid question.

Thanks :)

I think there may be two reasons;

1 – It was night, so folks were no longer at work. In Deathly Hallows, we see/read that when Ron, Hermione & Harry transform into Ministry employees using Poly Juice potion to get in, it is very busy with a lot of people arriving for work, likely meaning Ministry employees worked "regular" 9 – 5 hours, leaving the Ministry nearly empty. Obviously with the exception of Aurors, but I doubt an Aurors job would see them spending a lot of time at the office, and especially at night.

2 – Voldemort and his Death Eaters may have already begun using the Imperius curse to manipulate junior Ministry employees, so as to keep them away. Folks were still in denial that Voldemort had returned and he would likely have embraced the idea that his return was false, so violence would not have been used to clear the ministry, leaving the Imperius curse as an option.

How are Christian preachers called by God to the ministry?

August 3, 2011 - 4:35 am 9 Comments

I was wondering if anyone has heard a true account of being "called" by God to the ministry, what it was like, how the person knew that he was truly being led to devote his life to this.

This is not a question to make fun of the experience. I’d really like to know how the message was delivered, if anyone knows.
Did it come through a series of events, a personal voice of God in prayer or meditation, a miracle witnessed?

Here is a good article… which is nicely written… one of my brother’s is a Pastor, and I do know He felt a real fervent call to come forth, in this capacity, just as some are teachers, doctors… it is quite fascinating, when one speaks to people in all walks, even accountants, child care workers… they just have a real vocation for whatever capacity they are drawn to. I am saying some, not all. There is a great peace in my brother, so wonderful to see, so in His case, I am awed by His answer to this call. It can be so profound, a ministry that truly blesses others.

First, there is an inward call. Through His Spirit, God speaks to those persons He has called to serve as pastors and ministers of His Church. The great Reformer Martin Luther described this inward call as "God’s voice heard by faith." Those whom God has called know this call by a sense of leading, purpose, and growing commitment.
Charles Spurgeon identified the first sign of God’s call to the ministry as "an intense, all-absorbing desire for the work." Those called by God sense a growing compulsion to preach and teach the Word, and to minister to the people of God.
This sense of compulsion should prompt the believer to consider whether God may be calling him to the ministry. Has God gifted you with the fervent desire to preach? Has He equipped you with the gifts necessary for ministry? Do you love God’s Word and feel called to teach? Spurgeon warned those who sought his counsel not to preach if they could help it. "But," Spurgeon continued, "if he cannot help it, and he must preach or die, then he is the man." That sense of urgent commission is one of the central marks of an authentic call.
Second, there is the external call. Baptists believe that God uses the congregation to "call out the called" to ministry. The congregation must evaluate and affirm the calling and gifts of the believer who feels called to the ministry. As a family of faith, the congregation should recognize and celebrate the gifts of ministry given to its members, and take responsibility to encourage those whom God has called to respond to that call with joy and submission.
These days, many persons think of careers rather than callings. The biblical challenge to "consider your call" should be extended from the call to salvation to the call to the ministry.
John Newton, famous for writing "Amazing Grace," once remarked that "None but He who made the world can make a Minister of the Gospel." Only God can call a true minister, and only He can grant the minister the gifts necessary for service. But the great promise of Scripture is that God does call ministers, and presents these servants as gifts to the Church.
One key issue here is a common misunderstanding about the will of God. Some models of evangelical piety imply that God’s will is something difficult for us to accept. We sometimes confuse this further by talking about "surrendering" to the will of God. As Paul makes clear in Romans 12:2, the will of God is good, worthy of eager acceptance, and perfect. Those called by God to preach will be given a desire to preach as well as the gifts of preaching. Beyond this, the God-called preacher will feel the same compulsion as the great Apostle, who said, "Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!" [1 Corinthians 9:16, ESV]

Where can I get a Harry Potter Ministry of Magic license plate frame?

May 15, 2011 - 7:21 am 2 Comments

I remember seeing one in a parking lot and was really interested in finding one for a friend.

It said something like "this is a muggle car and ministry of magic or something" This was the frame that holds the license plate not the plate itself. If someone could point me in the right direction I’d really be grateful.

Since HP is under Warner Brothers, I’d check their website first.

How do Keynesian economics relate to the Ministry of Labour?

April 26, 2011 - 8:30 pm 1 Comment

I have such a hard time wrapping my mind around Keynesian economics/policies. Can anyone give me a short ‘for dummies’ rundown of Keynesian economics… and perhaps some suggestions to ho this would relate to the Ministry of Labour and labour policies. Thanks in advance!

A short "for dummies" rundown of Keynesian economics is not that easy, since economic theories are rather complex, but let me try and make a couple of points about what Keynes says in the general theory.

Keynes believed that the main malady of capitalism was unemployment. He believed that the main reason for this was underinvestment, not enough investment to maintain full employment. He proposed an expansionary monetary policy in order to bring interest rates down. He considered high interest rates as a significant obstacle to an adequate investment level in order to ensure full employment.

According to Keynes firms plan their investments comparing the schedule of the marginal productivity of capital(the expected added revenue that a firm expects to accrue from increased output by adding an additional unit of capital) to the interest rate, hence the need for a low interest rate in order to ensure adequate investment.

Keynes also believed that the marginal propensity to consume was too low in order to ensure sufficient demand especially as income rises. He supported redistribution of wealth in order to maintain sufficient demand in the economy.

Furthermore, Keynes introduced the notion of a liquidity trap, a situation where monetary policy is rendered useless when the interest rate is up against the zero bound. In a situation like that he proposed an expansionary fiscal policy with the government undertaking public investments in order to boost the economy.

Public investments would be the link between Keynesianism and the ministry of labour, but obviously Keynesian policies pertain to the entire government.

I’m not sure if that was what you were looking for, but it was a short and simple as i possibly could. As i said describing an entire theory in a couple of paragraphs is not an easy task. There are entire books devoted to the various economic theories.

How can I get a 501c3 status for a Christian ministry in Pakistan so Americans can donate confidently?

April 24, 2011 - 1:07 pm 5 Comments

I am in America and am trying to help a friend with a Christian ministry in Pakistan. Is there any way to get a 5013c non-profit status on a ministry that is out of the US? Or is the best thing to do just to try to get the status for myself on a ministry that I want to start and just transfer the funds to them?
Thanks but I just wanted to know if it is even possible first

Look up i1023.pdf online and go to page 5 "Foreign Organizations in General." The 1023 is the form to apply for tax exempt status in the U.S. and you should read this first before considering anything.

A quote from there says "Contributions by U.S. residents to foreign organizations generally are not deductible. Tax treaties between the U.S. and certain foreign countries provide specific limited exceptions."

Annual returns for foreign organizations that obtains a public charity status should be filed with the IRS. Form 990 or 990 E-Z or 990-PF if a private foundation.

The i1023.pdf is very informative. Please read for more information.

Since Environment Ministry clears all controversial projects what is the purpose to create this ministry?

April 22, 2011 - 1:21 pm 8 Comments

Our nature is in danger, by clearing all controversial projects by Environment Minister. The very purpose of saving the earth is getting defeated by central minister. PM should close Environment Ministry and close all such departments.

It is too early to comment . There is some vested interest in some decisions and lots of politics. But we should understand the laws of the land are well intended and things will settle down and people would start being ‘honest’ and true. At least 75% of the projects would be assessed properly. You and me should pin hope on the honest persons in the ministry and hope things will be ok in the future.

How many times during his ministry did Jesus enter the temple and overturn tables?

April 20, 2011 - 12:07 pm 6 Comments

In John, Jesus does this at the beginning of his ministry on his first trip to Jerusalem. In the other gospels Jesus does it at the end before he in crucified.

Did he overturn the tables twice or once?

Oh man he used to get drunk every Friday night at the pub two doors down and then in a drunken rage he’d go and turn them tables all over the place. Then he’d usually chill out and smoke a big fat blunt with his homies (apostles) Man I miss that guy!

Sorry, christians. forgive me.
