Psalm 69–Jesus? Or not?
May 25, 2010 - 11:04 pm
–”My zeal for Your house has been my undoing”,
–”They gave me gall for food, vinegar to quench my thirst.”
Those are about Jesus…right?
Take the chapter as a whole, or leave it as a whole; but don’t pick and choose verses to “prove” points!

Do you know that …
Do you know that psalm 69 was written by David and not Jesus? David was not perfekt and the psalm is a song which he wrote when god made a test of endurance.

The line which says …
The line which says: “I am the song of the drunkards” The “Serenity Prayer” of Alcoholics Anonymous was written by Assisi.
Other sections echo very typically of his troubled heart – believing himself called upon to be perfect even as Jesus was perfect but yet susceptible to temptation.

You may well be …
You may well be correct that the passage refers not to Jesus. It sounds more like John – or more precisely – Francis of Assisi – who was John in reincarnate form.

I am Christian and …
I am Christian and I don’t believe that Psalm 69 is supposed to refer specifically to Christ. I have often turned to that psalm for comfort and uplifting because I can relate to it. I think it’s important that Scripture be read in context, but that doesn’t disprove Jesus. I think it’s vital that Christians go back to Jesus’s true message, a return to God the Father. The world is too sick to worry about petty differences. The message was Love. Since the beginning. I don’t see much of that here.

Do you know …
Do you know anything about 1st century Jewish exegesis?
Read “biblical exegesis in the Apostolic period” and come back.Jews believed that the psalms and Tanach held hidden meanings and prophecies-You should also read on typology.

1)I guess I agree there. This idea that the Torah is not applicable is not supported in the New testament.

//And if he were …
//And if he were only a prophet… interesting he NEVER spoke like a prophet, “Thus says the L-RD….”//
Jesus is Lord-so when he speaks and say “but i say to you” he speaks as a prophet.

1) to understand ” …
1) to understand “Fulfill” in the sense of make no longer applicable is an understanding of “fulfill” which contradicts and is contrary to Torah.
2) fulfilling Torah commandments doesn’t make someone the Messiah
3) this message avoids the obvious problems presented in the clip and in my last message.

Yeshua said that he …
Yeshua said that he didn’t come to change the law or the prophets he came to fulfill them. So, OF COURSE the teachings come from the Tanakh. Why would he rebuild the temple if there already was one. Some prophecies he fulfilled in his first coming the rest he will fulfill in the second.

Unfortunately, the …
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the VAST majority of Christians, because the VAAAAAAAST majority of Christians don’t even know the alphabet of the possible language(s) in which their New Test. was written. It doesn’t do much good to go to the average, or even the average above average Christian, if you wanna examine the underlying Greek New Test. (Same point holds for Latin, Aramaic, Hebrew, etc..)

And if he were only …
And if he were only a prophet… interesting he NEVER spoke like a prophet, “Thus says the L-RD….”
Even WERE it true that he made a prediction not already referred to in earlier texts, all his predictions are made in the same manner that anyone would give his opinion of certainty that something is going to happen — that’s far from a prophecy. If I say such and such will happen tomorrow, and it happens, this doesn’t make me a prophet. I must say “ko omer Y/H/W/H” (Thus says the L-RD…).

That’s exactly the …
That’s exactly the point! If he were the Messiah… even an honest — but failed — messiah, he would at least have considered rebuilding the Temple a major issue.
The truth is that there’s NOTHING special in the New Test. Even if the few teachings in the New Test. which are true, they’re not unique. They are things either already mentioned in the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) or the instruction of the Mosaic Court.

Why should Jesus/ …
Why should Jesus/Titus talk about rebuilding the Temple (i.e., not his body)? He had no more intention of doing that than he had intentions of preventing his soldiers from following his orders to burn it down (Josephus notwithstanding).

Then why does the ” …
Then why does the “New Testament” quote so liberally from the Psalms, mining them for Messianic proof-texts that supposedly prove “Jesus”?!
You might want to take up your criticism with the writers of your own scriptures.

The “New Testament” …
The “New Testament” often portrays Iesous as doing other than what he teaches his disciples…kinda like the Pharisees.
Verse 28-29 contradict “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do” and verse 24-25 contradict his teaching regarding cursing others.
