    Point taken. I agree on The Bread of Life song and I criticize that one too, don’t like it much either. On the lector thing, you are right but the lector is reading the word of God, not some sappy lyric made up by a second rate songwriter/ singer.

    An interesting point.. There is at least some
    Scriptural precedent for it, tho. Most of Psalm 50, starting with v. 7, the speaker is God, berating his people for their sins. The Psalms were composed as *songs*, to be sung at the Temple. Your criticism could also be leveled at (for example) the Catholic hymn I Am the Bread of Life(I Will Raise Him Up). I am not Catholic, but I love that song & this one. Clergy or lectors often *read* passages in which God is speaking in the 1st person.

    I always thought it weird that the singer should put themselves in the role of God. The singer should respectfully praise God, not assume the role.
