How to Start a up a Church,Ministry?

Depends…will your ministry be any different than someone elses? If the answer is no – then join their ministry and preach for it.

Should Christian clergy be paid for their ministry?

February 28, 2010 - 7:14 am 30 Comments

Jesus wasn’t paid for teaching. Joseph had trained him as a carpenter. It is by his carpentry and other labor he earned what was necessary for his needs, travel and preaching. He never charged anyone for healing or teaching. By his example, I believe clergy should seek necessary income from secular sources. Preaching was never intended to make ministers wealthy by what God intended to be free to everyone.
I once attended a Baptist (American Convention)) Church in 1963. The Pastor was furnished vehicles, a house on 15 acres with horses, pool. House was 14 bedrooms. Real nice place. And his income at the time was $160,000 a year and 3 children all had fully paid scholarships. The Pastor moved on to better positions as President of the American Baptist Convention, then Head of the World Council of Churches.
I led people in with my question. Not that I am personally against clergy being paid. I am against them getting wealthy at it. By belief is that they be paid and maintain a lifestyle commesurate with the average of their congregation. Beyond that I think they project a very poor image to their congregation, denomination and Religion. And too lavish a lifestyle they make it well known their god is Money.

I think you’ve stated two different issues. Should a minister be paid and should a minister become wealthy. I feel ministers should be compensated for their work, but not to the degree of becoming one of the rich and famous.

Have you ever ordered food from the angel food ministries? What is your opinion of the food?

February 28, 2010 - 7:13 am 7 Comments

http://www.angelfoodministries.com the site for reference if you are not sure what I am talking about.

My aunt ordered from them, and gave us the items she did not want. The highest quality items are about on par with supermarket brands. The lowest quality items are practically inedible. She made a point that the meat "smelled of chemicals", which I guess is to be expected After we declined her generosity on the second order, she decided it wasn’t worth it, and didn’t order again.

Here is a longer review from the net which basically concurs with our conclusion.

Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization which offers food to everyone at discounted price. Their site says that the food includes restaurant grade meats, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products, etc. which they receive producers/vendors of high quality, name brand foods.

The price is $25 per box of food. Then box contains a diverse menu of mostly raw foods such as meats, noodles, dinner kits, condiments, and more. The menu changes monthly. The program, along with the $25 menu, offers a few specials costing around $18 each and features mainly meats such as NY strip steaks and thick-cut pork chops.

Angel Food says that each $25 regular box menu has a retail value of approximately $42 to $78. One box should to feed a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month.

People, who want to buy a box, go to their nearest church host site, place their orders and pay for the food with cash or food stamps by the month’s posted registration deadline. Near the middle of the month, at a posted date, the food arrives and is distributed at the host site.

For more Information, visit the Angel Food Ministries website.

We bought one box. It is not the best tasting food. About 25% was very good, another 25% was acceptable, 25% was barely acceptable, but the other 25% was not good at all. Their meat has a bit of preservatives that ruin much of the taste. It’s really hit or miss.

Here is the $25 menu I received:

(6) 4 oz. Hamburger Steaks with Bacon
(1) 2 lbs. Salisbury Steak Entree w/ Gravy
(4) 6 oz. Pork Chops
(1) 2 lb. Breaded Chicken Breast Filets
(1) 1 lb. Ground Beef
(1) 2 lb. Breaded Chicken Fritters
(1) 12 in. Tostino’s Pizza Rolls
(1) 16 oz. Corn Dogs
(1) 20 oz. French Fries
(1) 16 oz. Corn
(1) 15 oz. Pork & Beans
(1) 16 oz. Bean Soup Mix
(1) 16 oz. Rice
(1) 6 oz. Pancake Mix
(1) 16 oz. Green Beans
(1) 30 oz. Apple Pie

How do I go about starting a women’s ministry at my church?

February 26, 2010 - 10:37 am 6 Comments

I need to know what resources I can tap into.

These answers are silly. Talk to the pastor and/or his wife about it. If you see a need, others probably do as well. If your church hierarchy is different, talk to whoever is directly over you (deacon, whatever).

Resources are abundant. At my last church, I was in 2 women’s ministries. Sunday School was a ladies class and Wednesday night was a Mom’s group. Both were great.

Richard & Lindsay Roberts Ministry – Real?

February 26, 2010 - 10:36 am 6 Comments

I’ve watched the hour of healing a number of times – and here’s my impression:
It’s like they know a large number of people are watching and they will take common illnesses – and then say someone is being healed of an ulcer – or whatever. I’ve never heard them talk about any diseases that are rare like adrenal insufficiency or something (like 32 people in the entire state of Wisconsin..) – and I wonder about these huge stacks of prayer requests where they pray over the huge stack.. I think they’d be more believable if they said the name of the person, where they lived, what the disease was and then if that person said they were healed.. I think by people believing they’re going to be healed that they get healed, I do think people get healed, but I don’t know for sure that God is telling Richard and Lindsay about specific people, specific diseases, but He very well may be.. I dont know — what do you think?

It’s real, all right–a real cash cow.
